Introduction
I
am the General Counsel of LiMo Foundation, an industry consortium
dedicated to creating the first truly open, hardware-independent,
Linux-based operating system for mobile devices. Founded
initially by Motorola, NEC, NTT Docomo, Panasonic, Samsung
and Vodafone, most of the mobile industry leaders have joined
or are joining this consortium.
During
the last 10 years, being respectively the head of the legal
dept of the France Telecom/Orange IP & licensing division,
and EMEA Chief IP counsel for Intel, I developed a large
expertise in Intellectual property:
-
Patent licensing with the creation of several successful
licensing programs related to wireless technologies
Standardization with the creation of several industry
initiatives (homegateway initiative, LiPS forum...), participation
to the Board of OMA (Open Mobile Alliance), and recent contributions
to the review of its IPR policy by ETSI
Lobbying with his involvement in many European discussions
about IPR as elected chairman of the IPR group of EICTA,
the European ICT industry Trade association, and also chairing
a sub-group of the ICT Task force created by the European
Commission
Open source being involved from 1999 to help a R&D
public organization and then France Telecom/Orange to define
their strategy in this field.
I
am teaching IP and licensing in two French universities
(Paris XIII faculty of economy / Paris Sud, Law faculty
- Jean Monnet) and in UK as well. I am the author of several
articles about IP/IT law (domain names, Y2K, antitrust law
and distribution over Internet ) in different newspapers
and law journals, such as Les Echos, Lamy droit de l'informatique...
Furthermore,
I am very interested in new technologies, as a programmer
when I was younger and now as an intensive users. I was
one of the administrator of one of the most important website
in French about IT law (http://www.juriscom.net),
